The War Memorial

THE DEDICATION OF THE MEMORIAL

TO THOSE WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR

by The Bishop of Oxford, Dr Hubert Burge

November 8th 1920

“In Loving Memory of Old Boys and Masters of the Dragon School who gave their lives for their Country in the Great War.”

Three days later (on November 11th 1920), following a ceremonial journey from France, the body of the Unknown Warrior was brought to Whitehall in London, where King George V unveiled the Cenotaph, in memory of all those who had fallen in the War. This was followed by the interment at Westminster Abbey.

With many thanks to Old Dragons Tom Hollander and Paul Chahidi for their voice-overs.
